Partners: Rainbow Youth, CORE Education and University of Auckland
Inside Out is a friendly and accessible video-based learning resource to help increase understanding and support of sex, gender and sexuality diversity, so we can all belong. Inside Out is available freely at insideout.ry.org.nz.
The project was started by Dr John Fenaughty, who recognised the growing need for better support for young queer and trans people, in particular in an education context where they are more likely to report weekly bullying than other students. Working in a fantastic collaboration with Rainbow Youth, CORE Education and University of Auckland, Curative has led the project management, creative direction and production of Inside Out.
Using our co-design principles, the development of Inside Out involved more than 100 people from organisations including NZ Aids Foundation, Human Rights Commission, Albert Eden Youth Board, UniQ, Rainbow Youth, Core Education, Mental Health Foundation, Affinity Services, PPTA, Ministry of Social Development and a number of students from Onehunga High and Albany Senior High.
Our thanks to all of the participants in the co-design process and those who generously shared their stories in the video resources. Without you, Inside Out wouldn’t be what it is.
Inside Out is a Silver Award winner from the 2016 Best Design Awards in the Public Good Category.
